The use of portable outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, fire rings, or chimineas (recreational fires) are permissible within the Pleasant View Metropolitan District if the following guidelines from the 2012 International Fire Code and the amendments adopted by the Pleasant View Metropolitan District, and there are no fire bans/restrictions in place by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office:

Burning of trash, garbage, weeds, vegetation, construction debris and other man-made materials is NOT permitted.​

Recreational Fires Requirements

​Fire Pits, Fire Rings, and Portable Outdoor Fire Places
Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible material. Conditions which could cause a fire to spread within 25 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition.

***Recreational fires shall not exceed 3 feet in diameter and must remain 2 feet or less in height. Recreational fires shall be conducted in an approved fire pit, fire ring, Chiminea, or portable outdoor fire place.

Portable Outdoor Fireplaces
A portable, outdoor, solid-fuel-burning fireplace maybe constructed of steel, concrete, clay, or other non-combustible material. A portable outdoor fireplace may be open in design, or may be equipped with a small hearth opening and a short chimney opening in the top. Portable out door fireplaces, covered fire pits and fire rings shall be used in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

Attendance
Open burning, Recreational fires and the use of portable outdoor fireplaces shall be constantly attended by a non-impaired adult until fire is extinguished. A minimum of one portable fire extinguisher with a 4-A rating or other approved on-site fire extinguishing equipment, such as dirt, sand, garden hose or water barrel, shall be available for immediate utilization.

Prohibited Open Burning
Open burning that is offensive or objectionable because of smoke emissions or when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous shall be prohibited. Burning of trash, garbage, weeds, vegetation, construction debris and other man-made materials is NOT permitted.

Extinguishment Authority
Pleasant View Metropolitan District Fire Department personnel are authorized to extinguish, or order the extinguishment of any fire that creates or adds to a hazardous or objectionable situation. The appropriate law enforcement agency may be contacted if applicable.

The Pleasant View Metropolitan District, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department may implement Burn Restrictions at any time if atmospheric or environmental circumstances create the potential for hazardous fire conditions.

Submitting Requirements for a Burn Permit
The requesting party will complete an application form, and submit a site plan detailing the location of the fire. The site plan shall include locations of any structures within 75 feet of the planed fire, and any combustible materials that will aid in the spread of the fire. The plan also must contain start time the fire will begin and end. A site approval inspection by the Fire Department will be required prior to any burning.
